Frequently asked questions.

How do you pronounce "Unyik Care"?
"Unyik" is pronounced exactly like "unique" (you-neek).

What is Unyik Care?
Unyik Care provides 24/7 hospital sitting services for children in DFPS (Department of Family and Protective Services) custody. Our sitters offer essential supervision and basic support for hospitalized children when DFPS staff or foster parents are unavailable. Services are available for children in hospitals, rehabilitative facilities, or nursing homes.

How do I request a hospital sitter?
To request a hospital sitter, please complete our intake questionnaire, designed specifically for caseworkers. Once we receive your request, it will be reviewed, and you will be notified about availability.

Does submitting a request guarantee a sitter?
No, submitting a request does not automatically guarantee that a sitter will be available. We will review your request and confirm if we have sitters available. If sitters are unavailable due to high demand, we will notify you via text.

How long does it take for a sitter to arrive once my request is confirmed?
Once your request is confirmed, please allow 1–3 hours for a sitter to arrive, depending on location.

What paperwork is required for a sitter to be dispatched?
We require signed Forms 2054 and 5612 before dispatching a sitter. After your request is confirmed, please send the signed forms to supportservices@unyikcare.org. You may also text us once the forms are sent, though this is optional.

Can I extend the hours of a hospital sitting service?
Yes, if additional coverage is needed, please submit a new Form 2054 with the updated hours. If we are unable to provide extended coverage due to schedule conflicts, we will inform you, and you will need to arrange alternative coverage once the current Form 2054 expires.

How will I know if my request has been confirmed?
You will receive a confirmation email and text with the sitter’s estimated time of arrival if your request is accepted. If no sitters are available, you will be notified via text.

Will I receive updates on sitter availability?
Yes, we will keep you updated on availability by email, especially during high-demand periods when sitters may not be immediately accessible.

How can I check the status of my request?
If you do not receive an update within 30 minutes of submitting your request, feel free to send a follow-up text or call for further assistance.

What services do Unyik Care sitters provide?
Our sitters supervise the child, offer companionship, and provide basic non-medical care, including hygiene and comfort, interacting through age-appropriate activities, and assisting with feeding if needed. Sitters cannot provide medical care but will report any changes in the child’s condition to medical staff.

Does Unyik Care offer same-day or emergency services?
Yes, Unyik Care offers same-day emergency services to assist in urgent cases, including situations where a child has been removed from their home, along with 72-hour weekend services and scheduled services for upcoming surgeries.
